Growing up in Georgetown, Texas, I didn’t realize how lucky I was to live in a little college town. I dreamed of European opera houses and enormous New York auditoriums. But thanks to our neighbor, Southwestern University, I had a world-class musical education just steps away from my front door.
I took advantage of this resource first as a child who happened to love music and later as a serious student of music at SU. After I graduated from SU with a bachelor’s degree in music, I received a Master’s degree in vocal performance from the University of Texas at Austin.
As a professional singer, I have performed with The Opera Project, Helios Ensemble, Highland Park United Methodist Church, Spring Valley United Methodist Church, Georgetown Festival of the Arts, Dallas Symphony Orchestra and more. I’ve also appeared in Lone Spring Arts productions The Old Maid and the Thief and The 12 Carols of Christmas.
I have promoted music in other ways as well. I have been a member of the board of directors of the Dallas Opera since 2006 serving as chair of its education committee and am currently vice president for development. I chaired the Dallas Opera Guild Vocal Competition in 2004, and in 2013 chaired First Sight/First Night, the Opera’s two-day season opening celebration.I previously served as president and chairman of the board of directors of The Friends of WRR, the 24-hour commercial classical radio station owned by the city of Dallas and on the board of the Helios Ensemble.
Now, I continue my service to the Dallas Opera as I commit more time to my board of trustees role at Southwestern University and singing. My career hasn’t been conventional – and I certainly don’t intend to start doing things conventionally now! I am just getting started. Stay tuned to see what performances, productions and adventures are coming up next.
